Pastry and Base
  • 1-2 sheets frozen puff pastry (defrosted)
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey dijon mustard with balsamic vinegar (or plain dijon mustard)

  • 2-3 cups Gruyere cheese (freshly grated or any white cheese you prefer) Use high-quality cheese for best flavor.
  • 1.5 pounds medium asparagus (trimmed) Can substitute with other vegetables like zucchini or bell peppers.

  • to taste Fresh lemon zest

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Roll out the defrosted puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to your desired size.
  3. Prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and place the puff pastry on it, overlapping if using two sheets.
  4. Score the edges of the pastry and pierce the center with a fork.
  5. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until lightly golden.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Spread honey dijon mustard over the baked pastry, then sprinkle with Gruyere cheese.
  2. Arrange trimmed asparagus in a single layer over the cheese, brush lightly with olive oil, and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Bake for another 20 to 25 minutes until the asparagus is tender.
  4. Let cool slightly, then top with lemon zest and balsamic glaze before slicing and serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, place the tart in a preheated oven at 350 degrees until warmed through. This helps maintain the pastry's crispiness.
