Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk warm
  • 1/4 cup water warm
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional Decorations
  • raisins for eyes optional

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, water, and yeast. Let it sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract to the flour mixture. Mix until combined.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface until it is smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Let the dough rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, which takes about 1 hour.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into small pieces.
  7. Shape each piece into a bunny form, making sure to create ears and a small body.
  8. Place the bunnies on a baking sheet. Cover them and let them rise again until they are puffy.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  3. Optionally, use raisins to make eyes on each bunny before serving.

Notes

Serve Bunny Buns warm, fresh from the oven. They can also be served with butter, jam, or cream cheese for a tasty snack. For storage, let them cool completely and then place them in an airtight container, keeping them at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze them for up to 2 months.
