Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 pound pork shoulder Can substitute with pork tenderloin or pork belly.
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce Can use tamari for gluten-free option.
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine
  • 1 teaspoon five spice powder
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Green onions for garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice wine, five spice powder, garlic, and ginger.
  2. Marinate the pork shoulder in the sauce for at least 2 hours, but preferably overnight for better flavor.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place the marinated pork on a baking tray lined with aluminum foil.
  3. Bake for 30-40 minutes, basting occasionally with the marinade to keep it moist.
  4. Broil for an additional 5-10 minutes to get a nice caramelized finish on the pork.
  5. Let it rest for a few minutes, then slice and serve garnished with green onions.

Notes

For the best flavors, marinate the pork shoulder overnight. Keep an eye on the pork as it broils to prevent burning. If you want a spicier kick, add a dash of chili flakes to the marinade.
